About time units
The second is the SI base unit of time. Minutes, hours, days and weeks are fixed multiples of it: 60 s, 3,600 s, 86,400 s and 604,800 s.
Months and years aren't included because they aren't a fixed length — months have 28 to 31 days and years 365 or 366 — so any conversion would depend on which month or year you mean. Leap seconds and daylight-saving changes are ignored too: a day here is always 24 hours.
Limitations
- Results are rounded for display only; the calculation keeps full precision (15 significant digits).
Frequently asked questions
How many seconds are in a day?
86,400 (24 × 60 × 60).
Why can't I convert to months or years?
They don't have a fixed length, so the result would be ambiguous. Use days or weeks instead.
How do I convert hours with decimals to hours and minutes?
Multiply the decimal part by 60: 1.75 h = 1 h + 0.75 × 60 min = 1 h 45 min.
Are these time conversions exact?
Each unit is defined from its official definition (for example 1 inch = 2.54 cm exactly). Results are calculated in double precision and only rounded to the decimal places you choose when shown.
