Web Tools

Front-end work involves a constant cycle of reading minified code, cleaning up markup and squeezing bytes out of assets. These tools cover the everyday tasks that do not justify opening a full build pipeline.

About these web tools

Beautify HTML and XML to understand a template, minify CSS and JavaScript for a quick embed, test a regular expression against real input with live highlighting of matches and capture groups, and compare two versions of a text file line by line.

Why use them

  • Production-grade minifiers

CSS is minified with CSSO and JavaScript with Terser — the same engines used by many build tools — loaded only when you use them.

  • Live regex feedback

Matches, capture groups and named groups update as you type, using your browser's own JavaScript regex engine.

Frequently asked questions

Will minifying JavaScript change how it behaves?

Terser applies safe transformations by default, such as removing whitespace and shortening local variable names. Code that relies on function names at runtime or uses eval may behave differently; always test minified output.

Which regex flavour does the tester use?

JavaScript (ECMAScript) regular expressions, evaluated by your browser. Syntax specific to PCRE, Python or .NET, such as possessive quantifiers, may not be supported.
