cURL to VB.NET Converter

Convert curl commands to VB.NET code using HttpClient. Paste a command and the VB.NET snippet appears instantly — everything runs in your browser.

How to use this tool

Steps for using the cURL to Code.

  1. Copy a curl command — from API documentation, or from your browser's DevTools (Network tab → right-click a request → Copy as cURL (bash)).
  2. Paste it into Enter cURL command. The VB.NET HttpClient code appears instantly.
  3. Set up: Install the .NET SDK 6 or later. Create a project with dotnet new console -lang VB.
  4. Run it: Put the code in Program.vb and run dotnet run. Replace placeholders such as YOUR_TOKEN first, and check any notes under the editors for curl options that have no HttpClient equivalent.

Example

GET with headers → VB.NET HttpClient

curl command
curl 'https://api.example.com/v1/users?page=2' \
  -H 'Accept: application/json' \
  -H 'Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN'
VB.NET HttpClient
Imports System
Imports System.Net.Http

Module Program
    Sub Main()
        Dim client As New HttpClient()

        Dim request As New HttpRequestMessage(HttpMethod.Get, "https://api.example.com/v1/users?page=2")
        request.Headers.TryAddWithoutValidation("Accept", "application/json")
        request.Headers.TryAddWithoutValidation("Authorization", "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN")

        Dim response = client.Send(request)
        Console.WriteLine(CInt(response.StatusCode))
        Console.WriteLine(response.Content.ReadAsStringAsync().Result)
    End Sub
End Module

Common use cases

  • Maintaining and extending VB.NET applications
  • Windows Forms and ASP.NET apps written in VB

Converting curl to VB.NET HttpClient

HttpClient is .NET's built-in HTTP client. The VB.NET code builds an HttpRequestMessage, sends it with client.Send and prints the status and body.

The converter reads the curl command the way curl does — the method (-X), headers (-H), request bodies (-d, --data-raw, --json, -F), query strings, basic auth (-u) and cookies — and writes the equivalent HttpClient code. Options that have no HttpClient equivalent are listed under the editors rather than silently dropped.

Limitations

  • The code is a starting point: add timeouts, retries and error handling for production use.
  • Secrets in the curl command are copied into the code — move them to environment variables before committing.

Frequently asked questions

How are line breaks written in VB strings?

VB strings have no escape sequences, so the code joins vbLf, vbCr, vbTab and ChrW(n) with &. Quotes are written as "".

Should I use Async/Await?

In an application, yes: mark the method Async and use Await client.SendAsync(request). The example uses Send to stay short.

Is my curl command sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so tokens and passwords in the command never leave your device. Still, replace real secrets before sharing the generated code.
